Konnichi-wa Warrios,
For quite some time we got an idea to do a campaign in a small scale in MWO. This is derived from a campaign described in an old Classic Battletech Sourcebook. It is a non linear campaign, so this is unlike the usual scenarios and campaigns that we played. This means it is more flexible and playable even though few people are available. As I like roleplaying this method also gives you the opportunity to have some personal interaction 8-|
This is first, which means I would like to try the method with you and see how we can improve it.
So here are some more details:
It is a 3025 Stock Mech campaign that is for small scale battles (4vs4, max. 8vs8, or even 2vs2). All details are described in this campaign book:

To get into the feeling, I added some background information (some copied, some I made up, like the Black Sails mercenary unit).
I will work on two 24 Mechs units that resemble the 36th Dieron Unit and the Black Sails in the next few days.
But in the first place I need two commanders for the units that organise their forces and matches. One Tai-i for the 36th Dieron and one Captain for the Black Sails. These will be my partners to discussing the rules setup. Of course any feedback on it is highly appreciated, as I tend to get a tunnel view and overlook obvious flaws... :mrgreen:
If we are passed this trial phase and like it we can play with other units.

Thanks to my incredible recruitment skills (get them drunk and get them to sign your contract), lots of benefits (if you die, the captain will take care of your widow) and a perfect healthcare plan (no teeth, no dentist), i have many great warrios under contract. Unfortunatly, i am in financial trouble and those guys get paid veeeery well, cuz everyone of them is worth a whole lance of pilots. Problem is, every last one of them also drinks as much.

I have a Dropship that deviates from the regular traffic rout and is heading, I think, towards the northern continent!". The Master Chief Petty Officer leaned over the mans shoulder. He padded the nervous Tech. "Call them, and ask what the why the deviate, Nomura-kun. Follow the standard procedure, wakarimasu-ka?"

"Captain! We got an incoming transmission from Murchison flight control. They ask what we are doin'." The shout from the Com-Tech was almost lost in the tremendous noise from the rumbling Dropship as it rolled and corrected its course. "No reply, maybe we have some more minutes as the dirty Dracs try to figure out what is happening. And then it will all be too late for them, mates. HAHA!". Captain Nash Rackham pushed a few keys on his command console. "Boys! Saddle up! Its getting hot! All pilots to their Battlemechs!"

Today beginning from 2000 we will do the campaign. Goal is that we do at least one, better two matches.

Chu-I Girisha looked at the carnage in the Millow valley. The fire was still raging inside the broken chassis of the Firestarter. From time to time single bullets from the machine gun ammunition exploded and the Techs would not dare to go to close to the wreckage. The Med-Tech was done with caring for his wounds. He looked after the growling hover APC as it transported the captured enemy pilots for interrogation to the capitol. They managed to head of a heavy lance of the invaders but at a great cost. Nevertheless, this would teach them not to underestimate the Dieron warriors.

Captain Rackham looked at his unit roster and marked off the killed or captured pilots. A shame for the good Mechs... How did his dad say? "Live is cheap, Mechs are expensive" Well, at least they did not have to share the booty with the five lost ones. He shrugged as he remembered the Com-techs question: "Captain? Shall we send a rescue party?" How perthetic. The rumbling of Mechs and vehicles leaving the the Dropship woke him up from his thoughts.
"Faster you maggots! I want to be off this Snake infested mud ball as fast as I can!" His investments could still pay of.

First Match: Main Force Landing
Veridian Bog, Skirmish, 5 vs 5
The Battle raged short but intense. At close range the Dierons were able to defeat the pirates, winning 5 to 3. From a spectators point of view the last two minutes were decisive, as the combatants got close, exchanging PPC, LRM and Laser fire, finishing it in close quarter combat.
I had my fun watching it, and I hope you had fun and excitement fighting it.
Looking forward to the next matches.
After the short discussion yesterday evening (and beating some dirty Smoke Jaguars on HPG Manifold as loyal DCMS Warriors :keule: , with assistance of 12DG Mercenaries :wall: ), we found that this week will be no good week for further Matches, so I propose next Monday 01.07, wakarimasu-ka?

The main complaint was the to long waiting periode. I know the reason and I mention it as part that can (or lets say must) be improved.
So please improve the planning time and just field what is available, after all its just a game :-*

The camp was a mess, numerous crates and containers were destroyed. At least it was too moist, so the trees haven't caught fire when the Dierons had attacked the landing zone. The Mechs were still disembarking as the perimeter scouts had called that they were incoming. Nash had lead the assault on the small raiding party in his Highlander "Queen of Tortuga". Now his most prized possession lay broken beyond repair in a mud water filled pond one kilometer from the dropship. Again they had suffered heavy losses. Another five Mechs down. But at least they had destroyed some heavy stuff as well. A Dieron Battlemaster was ripped apart by the pirates. Hopefully that was the commanders Mech. That stinking snakes!
"Move it! Get the rigs up again! I said MOVE! Everything that can walk is to depart in two hours!" That's it, no more mister nice guy. I will let them pay for what they did to his beloved "Queen of Tortuga".

They were on the way back to the capital, again heavy losses, but it was worth it. Just something over a lance of invaders eliminated just one klick away from the dropship, they have had time to damage some equipment as they got near the landing zone as possible, before the dropship had opened up with long range weapons.
If it was enough to drive the pirates back to space was unsure. However was the assault a success even though at heavy losses.

Costal Comm Station B4A, Near New Brunswick
Sho-ko Kerminov had reprogramed the remote Comm Station to monitor radio chatter that was presumably from the pirates. All five emitters would trace the movement of the pirates as they got near New Brunswick. From what he had listened to over the coms the assault in the Critter Valley had gone good. He thought that the pirates were too busy to detect him. He looked up his Quickdraw as he closed the panel on the service hatch of the antenna tower. Better be quick, he thought and ran to the ladder.

Kashira Kamarov stepped up the hill in his Phoenix Hawk to have a look on the pirate convoy that had halted near Sowlung harbour only to be greated by PPC and AC fire. Still on the steep hill he made evasive steps as the rest of the strike lance began a flanking attack. PPCs hit left torso and legs as he made a diversion to give his comrades the time they needed to reach the tunnel that would give them little bit of cover to close the distance to the enemy.

Lieutenant "Barnacle Bill" Kramer stood on his Catapult taking a deep sip of Old Donagel Whiskey looking over the harbour from the towering Mech. The Mech stood on a higher helipad so he had a good view on everything. Six piles of smoke marked the last resting places of the fallen steel titans. Down to Davy Jones locker. "At least one of 'em dirty snakes is mine, you hear!". They had successfully defended the supply convoy and had even managed to destroy all attacking draconian Mechs. Four to two lost Mechs is a good result for once. He raised the bottle for one more sip as his helmet microphone cracked. "Krrrr.... forget it,.... not going back.... ship Kraken returning to LZ...!"

Captain Will "Sabertooth" Hollander opened a channel to Vince "Tarantula" Gorky. "Hey maggot, we will cover your retreat." Crackles in the channel "But when you strafe them two or three times again, then we have 'em!". "You sniffed coolant again?!? Vince, forget it, we are not going back. Dropship Kraken is returning to LZ, for Blakes sake!" He switched of the channel.
He and his crew had assisted in attacking the base. The flight vectors had been given to them by Vice. He was on the ground in his Spider to help them navigate the dropship as it swept through the narrow canyon and attack the base and its defenders with the ships weaponry. A dangerous maneuver, but effective if the enemy wasn't prepared for it. Unfortunately the Dracs had run out of their base like a swarm of angry bees once the had realized they were sitting ducks in that small area. The Dracs had surprisingly overwhelmed the attackers that were sniping through the base gates. The fighting was brutal and short. And it was over.
However his Leopard class dropship was too precious to risc it in another pass or two without ground support. He turned the ship on the left wing and saw the 30 ton Spiderthrough the side window running at full speed along the shore line back to Sowlung harbor. "What a day, I tell ya, what a day."

FLASH NEWS – Murchison Public Brodcasting Network, Early Morning Edition
Rhythmic beating music, as the news flash intro screen slowly vanishes. The trivid projection of a young female reporter in heavy winter garment focusses in. Light snow drifting all around her. In the background shades of a small mountain area with a radio antenna, against a far too bright foreground.
"This is Hitomi Shimatsu reporting from the Palimino creek delta. The carnage is unbelievable. The fighting that broke out sometime after midnight can still be seen in the morning. Broken and burnt trees, some of the wrecked mechs are still hot from the fires that gutted them. A Dieron supply convoy was attacked by a strike force of fast pirat mechs. Medtechs have taken care of the wounded and we have an unconfirmed report that a high ranking officer of the invading forces was captured as he tried to escape his downed mech by the radio tower that you can see behind me. Soldiers on the ground told us that as they approached the downed Spider mech they were fired upon by the pilot that tried to escape."
Shaky footage of a broken Spider a few meters in front of the radio tower. Small flashes of light as shoots from someone hiding in the debris were fired. Retaliating fire that bounces off armor plates. People shouting.
"Further reports indicate that the pirates fled the delta in the middle of the fight instead of overwhelming the valiant defenders of the supply convoy that was heading north. Why they have left their comrade behind is still a mystery but may indicate a serious breach in faith of the invaders that have been identified as the Black Flag pirate band." An image of a torn shoulder box of Catapult with the insignia of a black ship against a red background.
"As we learn more about other locations that have suffered from this raid, we hear the call by some citizens to retaliate instead of accepting the unprovoked raids by these pirates. In a late night meeting with governor Kremniev and Tai-sa Hatake we got this short replay at the end of the meeting."
The governor's residence main door opens, a delegation of DCMS officers in field uniforms walk fast and firm to the waiting armored car, soldiers holding off the reporters.
"Hatake-sama, Hatake-sama!!! Any comment by the Dieron regiment and district command on how we react to this threat to Murchison and the Combine? Hatake-sama!!" Without stopping the high ranking officer enters the car and gives a short reply.
"All options are open." He slams the car door shut and drives off.
Reappearing the young reporter.
"We will keep you posted on any more news unfolding in this early hours. Next is Dimi, with a report from Murchison air traffic control on an attack involving a military dropship yesterday evening. This is Hitomi Shimatsu from Palimino creek, wishing you a nice day."

"Feck!" As the Union ascended with a thunderous sound, Lieutenant Kramer threw his bottle of whiskey – half full, a sure sign of how devastated and angry he was – through the mech hangar. Captain Hollander didn't even flinch when the bottle crashed onto the Assassins foot he was leaning against. On the verge of bankruptcy and in a stolen union he thought things couldn't have been worse. Little did he know ... Most of the mechs destroyed, most likely lying next to the rotten corpse of their leader the swamps of Murchison beneath them, the future of the Black Sails was uncertain at best. None of the surviving pirates said something, as Lieutenant Kramer stormed off to his quarters.
A few days later, on Terra, a Comstar hard drive switched a "1" to an "0", acknowledging the death of Nash "Scurvy" Rackham and started a chain of events with this action that triggered Comstars estate administration for mercenaries. Only a few seconds later, a prefabricated message left the planet in search of a few of those, whose live status in the Comstar Systems was still set to "1".
